Artificial Intelligence

Will computers ever be able to perform tasks that come natural to humans, such as reasoning, learning, thinking, natural language comprehension and production, or vision in that part of the Electromagnetic Spectrum we avail of? Will they ever be conscious? Whatever that means!

We are not talking about simulating or mimicking human intelligence, we are talking about being part human, or similar or even more than human, in terms of intelligence (not knowledge in the sense of facts and figures), but awareness and consciousness.

Can information be processed by computers in a similar way that the cognitive processes in our brains work? Surely this is the next stage of evolution. Will the next stage of human evolution be called robo sapiens. Will, in thousands of years time, computers be able to ask and question their origin, just as today we question the circumstances and events that allowed humans evolve to homo sapiens sapiens. Will the computers of tomorrow dominate this planet and rise to the top of the food chain? As things stand today we are increasingly reliant on computers. Society would fall apart if computers stopped working.
